In 2009 I went to central Mexico with a photographic group to shoot Holy Week events in and around San Miguel de Allende. Each day we shot another part of the Holy Week story as it was played out by the devoted in central Mexican towns, large and small. San Miguel de Allende, Quereteros, Ixtla. Here's the story, from the first celebration parade and arrival of Jesus and the betrayal in San Miguel, the trial and crucifixion in Ixtla, the penitents in Quereteros, closing out with The Blowing of the Judases in San Miguel, where the people drop the solemnity by blasting effigies of famous (but mostly infamous) people.
